How to Mine Pi Coins on Your PC for Free
The days of mining Bitcoin on computers—not supercomputers—seem to be long gone, but not for Pi coin whose days for mining on PC are still very much here and don’t seem like going anywhere in the near, far, and unforeseeable future! Pi Network uses a node that is different from that used by Bitcoin or Ethereum, for instance, which use PoW (Proof of Work).
The Pi Network node, called “Pi Node” uses a consensus algorithm that is based on SCP (Stellar Consensus Protocol). The nodes in SPC constitute of quorum slices or trusted groups of Pi mobile miners who only accept transactions that the trusted nodes in the SPC accept, and no more. The nodes in the trusted groups determine who will or won’t validate transactions on Pi Network’s shared ledger.
Can you mine Pi coins on PC: How does mining Pi coins on PC work?
Yes, you can mine Pi coins on your PC. To mine Pi coins on your PC and become part of the team that will validate transactions on Pi Network’s distributed ledger, you need to run Pi Node on your PC and start contributing to the network’s Node activities. But first you have to ensure that you fulfill some selection criteria for your account to properly serve as for Node (and even SuperNode) on Pi Network Testnet and Mainnet, respectively.
Pi Network’s selection criteria for Nodes
- pioneers must have a high possibility of joining uptime periods or being online 24/7.
- pioneers must have good (fast and stable) internet connection.
- pioneers must have made previous contributions to the Pi community
- pioneers must have a Security Circle
- pioneers must have a PC that has adequate processor and memory
- pioneers must have a PC that is capable of opening ports on the local router
If you are fulfill all of the above the selection criteria and your account or Node is eventually selected by the Core Team, you will still have to pass KYC before your account can render service as a Node on Pi Testnet which is in Pre-Mainnet and quite different from Pi Mainnet.

Concluding remarks
The selection criteria and instructions listed above do not refer to Pi Mainnet Nodes which are currently blocked by a firewall in the Enclosed Network period of Pi Mainnet—not Pi Testnet. It is only after passing KYC that you can be sure of having your account enrolled as a Node on Pi Mainnet. After Open Mainnet is launched, hopefully by December 2024 or in 2025 the Mainnet firewall will be unblocked or removed so that every pioneer whose account is accepted as a Node will be able to mine Pi coins on their PC by running their own Nodes on Pi Mainnet.
